John Bradley Williamson Medical Negligence Claims
Mr John Bradley Williamson (Mr Williamson) was a Consultant Spinal Surgeon based at the Salford Royal Hospital and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital in the NHS. He also worked at the private Spire Manchester Hospital. An investigation by Salford Royal released on 31 July 2023 uncovered 'unacceptable and unprofessional conduct with patients and staff'.

Can I make a claim against Mr Williamson?
If Mr Williamson performed spinal surgery on you, you may be able to claim compensation. The report found a number of issues including:
- Substandard surgery was performed due to lack of care and attention
- Patients suffered long-term pain and mobility issues
- Those operated on suffered higher than expected blood loss
- There was a lack of informed consent by patients before operations were carried out
- “In a high number of cases” the risks documented on the consent form and documents didn’t reflect those of the proposed surgery
- Mr Williamson displayed “unacceptable and unprofessional behaviour”
- It identified “serious and frequently occurring significant professional issues.”
The review of more than 130 patients operated on between 2009 and 2014 also found seven people suffered “severe harm” while 13 suffered “moderate harm”.
In March 2023, Spire Healthcare released a patient recall. This came after Mr Williamson had his practising rights revoked. This related to surgery performed by Mr Williamson at Spire Manchester Hospital.
