Education Law Solicitors
When a child's education is affected by the decisions of a school or local authority, getting the right support can make all the difference. Our specialist education law solicitors help children, young people and families challenge decisions that affect their access to education, support and equal treatment.
We specialise in children's educational rights, including SEN, EHC plans, exclusions, disability discrimination and school admissions.

What is education law?
Every child has the right to access education and appropriate support. Education law governs how schools, colleges, local authorities and government must support children's access to education.
In England and Wales, the key framework is set by the Education Act 1996, the Children and Families Act 2014 and the Equality Act 2010. These laws give children and families specific rights, including the right to an education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan, the right to appeal exclusions, and protection from disability discrimination.
Our work focuses on protecting children's rights in education and holding schools, local authorities and public bodies to account when they fail to meet their legal responsibilities. We've also created a range of helpful factsheets and template letters to support families seeking the right education and support for their child.
Education law disputes can involve complaints, appeals and challenges through several different organisations. Our specialists will guide you through the process, explain your options clearly, and offer friendly, professional support at every stage.

Our education law specialists can help with:
- Appealing school or college exclusions
- Arranging an alternative placement following exclusion from school
- Challenging failures to provide SEN support and SEN funding decisions
- Challenging decisions relating to your child's EHC Plan
- Disability discrimination claims against schools
- School and nursery admissions
- Transition to adulthood support
- Formal complaints or complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman
- Asserting your legal rights if your child is out of school.
We also advise school and educational professionals on a range of education law matters.

Case study - Fighting local council cuts at the High Court
Our education law solicitors helped protect access to education, health and social care for two disabled children from Warwickshire.
Local councils are required to make a ‘Local Offer’ available which sets out information about education, health and social care. Our clients asked us to intervene when Warwickshire County Council made cuts to the services in their Local Offer in order to make budget savings.
In a judicial review at the High Court, we argued that the Council’s Local Offer was unlawful because its provisions no longer met the basic legal requirements. The Court agreed and the Council has been forced to redraft their Local Offer.
“The successful outcome shows that local authorities must do their best to make sure a Local Offer covers all the needs of the child or children involved. The High Court supported our argument and we’re pleased the two children can now have access to the education they rightfully deserve.”
