Mervyn John Hutchinson Medical Negligence Claims

Mr Mervyn John Hutchinson is a spinal orthopaedic surgeon who previously practised at North Bristol NHS Trust and Spire Bristol Hospital. Our medical negligence specialists are investigating claims related to surgery performed by Mr Hutchinson.

What has Mr Hutchinson done?

Former patients raised issues about Mr Hutchinson. These patients had undergone scoliosis correction, fusion surgery, and complex spinal surgery.

They reported that their operations were performed incorrectly or were more extensive than needed. This left them with more pain and longer recovery times.

Spire Bristol Hospital revoked Mr Hutchinson’s practising privileges in 2019 and began recalling patients as a precaution.

Mr Hutchinson is due to go before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal for failing to provide good clinical care to nine patients between 2014 and 2018. The Tribunal is due to consider 17 incidents when he used incorrect coding for surgery in the private sector.

Since 2022, Mr Hutchinson has had conditions on his right to practice medicine by the General Medical Council. This includes being observed by a supervisor.

Frequently Asked Questions

We talk to people everyday about their group medical negligence claims. These legal matters are so important but they’re not always easy to understand, especially when you’re just starting out and trying to understand what help is available and how it can get you where you need to be. Here are some of the questions we hear most often.

Like the amount of compensation you’ll receive, the time your claim will take is difficult to predict.

If we’re able to get the other party to admit fault early, this’ll speed up your case. If not, we’ll need to prove fault. This includes gathering evidence, medical records, and speaking to medical experts.

The claim might also have to go to court, which can lengthen the process.

You can be sure we’ll be by your side no matter how long your claim takes.
